Together we can aim high, work hard, have fun!

Week Beginning 8th October 2018

Assemblies – In Assembly this week, we have been talking about how we all have feelings, some make us happy and some make us sad. The children were encouraged to share their feelings with adults and their friends so we can help one another. We particularly had a focus on this week, as it had been Mental Illness Awareness week.

On Friday in Assembly we celebrated national Braille Day, the children learned more about braille and how it used by vision impaired people. They were very engaged listening to the story of Louis Braille.

International Early Learning and Child Well Being Study – this week we had some of our children, staff and parents involved in this study that focuses on children’s early learning and the influence of early education experiences, home environment and individual characteristics on their development. It aims to provide comparative data and analysis to help improve children’s early learning outcomes and overall wellbeing.

Parent Council – on Tuesday evening our new Parent Council met for the first time, we discussed the school’s priorities for this year, the analysis of the Parent Survey and questions raised by parents. One of the areas we are trying to explore is the setting up of an Infant Second hand Uniform sale. If you have any second had uniform you would like us to sell then please leave it at the school office.

Y1 RNLI Visit – this week our Y1s have continued to find out more about local heroes. On Wednesday, they had an informative workshop to learn more about the RNLI. The children enjoyed the experience and gained more knowledge about the work of the RNLI.

Governor Visits – On Wednesday four of our governors visited the school and spent part of the day in class, looking at how the children have settled into their new routines and getting a better understanding of how a day in school works for a child and teacher.

Individual Photos – On Thursday, the children had their photograph taken by Tempest Photographers.

Year R Parent Workshop – This morning our YR team held a workshop for parents informing them about the Year R curriculum. It was also an opportunity for parents to ask any questions. I know parents value these opportunities to meet with the teachers and find out more about how we can work in partnership to support the children’s learning.

Eco Warriors – Today our Eco warriors met for the first time and spent time planting our window boxes, they look lovely! Their project for this year is to try to reduce the amount of non-recyclable plastic used in school. Our Eco Warriors are: Sea Urchin: Tom and Rosie, Shrimp: Chloe and Joseph, Starfish: Ava and Wilson, Whelk: Isabelle and Oscar, Barnacle: Oliver and Willow, Clam: Oliver and Astrid, Lobster: Lucas and Isabelle, Seahorse: Joshua and Olive.
